Cambodian Acting Head of State Engages in Productive Talks with Vietnamese National Assembly Chairman

Phnom Penh, April 8, 2024: In a significant diplomatic engagement, Cambodian Acting Head of State Hun Sen connected through videoconference this afternoon with Vuong Dinh Hue, Member of the Politburo and Chairman of the National Assembly of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.

Vuong Dinh Hue extended heartfelt congratulations to Hun Sen on his recent election as President of the 5th legislature of the Senate, voicing strong support for Cambodia's development efforts and the sustained enhancement of relations between the two nations across all fronts, including their parties, governments, parliaments, and peoples.

In response, Hun Sen expressed gratitude for the Vietnamese National Assembly chairman's congratulations. He emphasized his dual priorities in his new role: fostering parliamentary diplomacy to support the National Assembly and the Royal Government in foreign affairs consistency, and ensuring accountability to the electorate, including National Assembly members and commune/Sangkat councillors.

Hun Sen warmly accepted Vuong Dinh Hue’s invitation for an official visit to Vietnam, to be scheduled at a convenient time.

Both leaders praised the existing close and beneficial cooperation within the frameworks of both party and government. Amidst the changing global landscape, they underscored the need to further strengthen bilateral cooperation across various sectors, such as national defense, security, and border affairs, aiming for the mutual benefit of both countries' peoples. Their discussions reaffirmed the commitment to foster relations based on the principles of good neighborliness, traditional friendship, and comprehensive, long-term cooperation.
